Peter is both qualified and experienced in the property sector. He qualified as a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in 1983 having graduated and joined the property investment department of Royal London Insurance in 1981. During his time there, Peter was responsible for all property management functions, portfolio valuation, landlord and tenant administration and investment acquisitions. In 1984, Peter took over the direct management of their London portfolio.
Peter’s experience in the industry continued to grow as he left Royal London Insurance in 1986 and moved to a Director position for a private practice in Colchester, specialising in commercial property. Peter oversaw the day to day running of the business, undertaking property valuation, landlord and tenant case work and other ‘non-agency’ business. This is where he gained the skills, knowledge and expertise to start his own company.
Peter was elected a Fellow of the RICS in 1995 and formed Morley Riches and Ablewhite in 2001. The company was a great success, re-gaining the contract to manage the Crown Estate’s coastal properties in the same year. This area of work is something Peter particularly enjoys. He is very proud to have held the post of coastal agent since 1990.
Out of the office, Peter is a keen musician. “At school I took lessons in classical guitar. In truth I didn’t want to be Segovia, I wanted to be Hank Marvin! Hence it took me 5 years to reach Grade 5 as I spent most of my time strumming rather than plucking!
From then on it was bands all the way and I’ve been in one or another ever since. I had a brief sabbatical during which I accompanied an award winning choir (we played in the Albert Hall don’t you know) but for the rest of the time it’s been rock and pop.”
Finally Peter has achieved his musical ambition playing bass in a top Shadows tribute band, The Silhouettes.
In Lockdown someone new entered Peter’s life – Baldrick a special (needs) working Cocker Spaniel bred by Sam Morley. Peter is now Baldrick’s human, an arrangement which suits them both very well. You can read Baldricks Blog Here.
